House & Dance emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s within the underground clubs of Chicago and New York as a distinct dance style. It drew influences from a diverse range of movement and dance genres, particularly Tap, African dance, Latin American dances, hip-hop, and martial arts. House Dance found its birthplace on the vibrant dance floors where house music took center stage. To this day, the essence of House Dance lies in the pursuit of uninhibited expression, improvisation, and a deep connection to the music. The focal point remains the energetic exchange between dancers themselves and the dynamic interplay between their movements and the rhythmic beats.

What you will learn:
  • Different dance styles from the 1970s and 1980s

About House & Dance:
The dance style is characterized by a constant groove that is present throughout all movements. Because the dance style is relatively young, its foundation can easily be traced back. Many of the early house dancers are still alive (and dancing) today! In this workshop series, we will focus on improving our fitness by drilling the basic steps of house dance and discovering our personal groove. If you love house music, this workshop is for you! Check out these video's to get to know the dance style.
