Gonnie van Heugten studied at 'De Nieuwe Opera Academie' (the new opera academy) / Royal Academy of Music under Hebe Dijkstra, and graduated as Master of Music in 2002. She also studied musicology at the University of Utrecht.
Aside from her extensive oratorio and concert practice she has portrayed many characters in operas, such as the role of Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni during the Belcanto Festival in Verona. She reached the semi-finals of the 'Concorso Internazionale Di Canto)' in Verona. She sang the part of Barbarina in Mozart?s Le Nozze di Figaro with the Gelders Orchestra during the series of Robeco Summer Concerts in 2007. In January 2008 she sang the part of Papagena in Mozart?s Die Zauberflote with Combattimento Consort, once again in the Amsterdam Concert Hall.
